So again, we are making more USB 2.0 video conferencing products wireless! The Logitech BCC950 is a digital PTZ (Pan Tilt Zoom) camera with USB 2.0 made for video conferencing from Logitech. We had a special request for a demonstration on how to make the Logitech BCC950 wireless with the USB2Air. The USB2Air is a wireless USB 2.0 extension system with near-zero latency perfect for video conferencing and live streaming applications. In this video, we connect the Logitech BCC950 to the USB2Air Wireless extension system to provide wireless video and audio to our Windows laptop.

As you can see from the wiring diagram below the Logitech BCC950 is plugged into the USB2Air via USB 2.0. We are also showing an additional USB 2.0 device the ClearOne Chat 150 which is not necessary but shown to demonstrate multiple devices can be used on USB 2.0 hub. The Logitech BCC950 can act as both a USB 2.0 video and audio device. So in this demonstration, we are wirelessly extending the Logitech BCC950 as a webcam and as a microphone. You can also notice the USB bandwidth which is measured up to 30 Mbps (Megabits per second) which is the maximum amount of bandwidth the USB2Air can handle.

The picture above shows the real world application for wireless USB 2.0 extension. Many times either the computer is at the table or the wall. The webcam and speakerphone is usually needed to be extended with USB 2.0 extension cabling in order to setup and proper layout. So whether you laptop is at the table or behind the LCD the USB2Air give you the freedom to place your USB devices where you need them without expensive USB 2.0 cabling.

This video demonstrates the brand new HuddleCamHD USB 2 Air in action. Here Paul shows us how to make a Logitech Webcam wireless. The USB2Air provides a wireless USB 2.0 extension link between the host and device transceivers up to 30 Mbps. This is more than enough bandwidth to use with multiple 1080p webcams, audio conferencing devices and even interactive touch screens.

So in this video, we wirelessly extend the USB 2.0 for a Logitech c920 to demonstrate a popular use case for Wireless USB extension. As we mention many times in a conferencing space environment the computer is either behind the LCD or a laptop on the table. Either way the USB2Air can be used as a wireless USB extender. If your laptop is on the conference room table you can use the USB2Air to connect devices wirelessly such as a Webcam to your laptop. If you computer is behind the LCD display you can use the USB2Air to add additional products such as a document camera or touch screen controller.

The reason why the USB2Air is so special is because the latency is super low (1 millisecond). So this wireless USB extension can be used for real time applciations such as video conferencing and collaboration. As you can see in the video the latency is just as good as if the USB webcam was plugged directly into the computer. The only drawback is that this is a Windows-only product! That means this will work with Windows 7, 8, 8.1 or 10 but not any Mac computers!

February 23rd, 2017, HuddleCamHD® announces the release of a new Wireless USB 2.0 extension system shipping in Q2 of 2017. One of the most useful applications for the USB2Air is the point to point wireless USB connection between a laptop and a USB 2.0 webcam. Conferencing spaces around the world have to decide whether they will have a dedicated PC powering the television or allow users to bring their own devices known as (BYOD). In the dedicated PC application where the IT managers have a dedicated PC powering the display, there is often a speakerphone at the table used for video conferencing. In this scenario, the USB2Air can be used to wirelessly connect the speakerphone to the dedicated PC. In the BYOD scenario, the USB2Air can be used to connect a laptop to the USB webcam mounted on the wall.

As you can see the Wireless USB 2.0 transmitter is labeled “Host”. The USB2Air includes a set of USB 2.0 adapters. One is labeled “Host” which is used to plug into the computer and the other is labeled “Device” which is used for the webcam in this case.

Whether you are using the USB2AIR wireless USB extension system with Webcams or Speakerphones the USB web video conferencing market has been a focus for HuddleCamHD for many years. HuddleCamHD has been a huge advocate for plug and play simplicity. In 2014, when HuddleCamHD had a full line of USB conferencing equipment most vendors were still promoting traditional hardware codecs and HDMI cameras. While these cameras and video conference codecs are certainly high quality, they lack the easy installation and use that USB devices offer. Other use cases – Wireless USB 2.0 Touch Screens

While the wireless USB extension of webcams and speakerphones remains the focus of HuddleCamHD for the dedicated web video conferencing market, there are also other use cases in the same space. For example, we have tested multiple USB touch screen monitors from Mimo that work great such as the 10.1″ Mimo Vue HD. This device is a USB monitor that can be used to launch applications for video conferencing and collaboration much like a Crestron or Extron control system. Because the device uses a USB 2.0 connection for video and control the USB2Air works perfectly for wireless extension. The “Host” USB 2.0 extension adapter plugs into the computer and the “Device” USB 2.0 adapter connects directly into the output connection for the touch screen. The computer literally has no idea that the cabling has been transmitted wirelessly.

Video conferencing is a high bandwidth video intensive software and hardware solution. From a software standpoint most newer web based video conferencing platforms are leveraging both harware processing and cloud / server based processing. This means that the computer you are using is just as important as your internet connection (usually an i5 processor is suggested). Assuming you have all of the latest hardware and software in place, the last thing you want is your wireless USB 2.0 extension system causing issues.

The use of USB 2.0 and now USB 3.0 touch screens to display and control content from a computer is starting to become common place especially in the video conferencing and web-based collaboration markets. Expensive control systems from Crestron and Extron now have to compete with commodity type USB touch screens from companies such as Mimo and J5 Create who feature USB 2.0 HDMI Display Adapters. The USB2Air wireless USB video adapter has already been tested and confirmed compatible with most USB 2.0 Mimo touch screens and the j5 Creat JUA250 (USB 2.0 HDMI Display Adapter) and JUA230 (DVI Display Adapter). Extending cabling for USB touch screens will no longer be necessary within the distance limitations of the USB2Air making installation and project cost lower in many cases.
